The Guide TU425S Thermal Scope is the light one in Guide's TU 3.0 Series, weighing 575g so it does not turn a walking rifle into a chore. It is built for short to mid-range work, the sort of night where you are moving between paddocks on foot or shooting off the back of a ute rather than sitting on one long face. Detection runs to 1300m.
A 25mm lens sized for short to mid range
Behind the 25mm F1.0 lens sits a 400x300 detector on a 12um pixel pitch, giving 1300m of detection range. Magnification runs 4.3x to 17.2x with a field of view of 10.3 degrees x 6.2 degrees, roughly 18 x 11m at 100 metres. That wide base view is the point of the shorter lens. Picking up a pig that has broken close and swung across your front is far easier when you are not looking through a straw.
Thermal sensitivity you can rely on after dark
NETD describes the smallest temperature difference the sensor can separate, and the TU425S is rated at 20mK. That gives clean separation between a warm body and cooled ground through most of a normal night's shooting. The detector responds across 8um to 14um and refreshes at 50Hz, keeping fast movers defined rather than smeared, with the APEXVISION imaging system handling the processing.
Shutterless, so nothing blinks at the wrong moment
A shutterless design means no periodic calibration freeze interrupting the picture, which matters when an animal is moving and the shot window is short. The 0.49-inch AMOLED runs 1920x1080 and offers White Hot, Black Hot, Red Hot, Green Hot, Iron Red, Blue Hot and Sepia. Dioptre adjusts -5D to +5D.
Ten hours of run time in a sealed chassis
An internal 18500 cell delivers 10 hours, and an external 18650 extends that further without pulling the scope off the rifle. Charging runs over USB-C at 5V DC 2A. The body measures 311x89x76mm, is rated IP68 and works from -20C to 50C. Dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi handles streaming and transfer, with snapshot, video and audio recording built in. A quick release mount is included, torqued to 2.5N.m or 22.13 in-lbs.
