Guide Orion O435CS Thermal Clip-On

The Guide Orion O435CS Thermal Clip-On turns the day scope you already trust into a night-capable rig without touching your zero. It sits in front of your existing optic, so your reticle, your holds and your muscle memory stay exactly as they are. At 285g it adds very little weight to the front of the rifle, which you notice after a few hours of walking paddocks.

Picks up game out to 1800 metres

A 35mm objective in front of a 400x300 detector gives a detection range of 1800m on a large, warm target. The field of view is 7.9° x 5.9°, which covers roughly 13 x 10 metres of ground at 100 metres. That is enough width to sweep a fence line or a dam edge without constantly panning, and enough reach to sort out what is standing at the far end of a cleared block before you close the distance.

Reads faint heat once the ground has cooled

The detector is rated at 15mK NETD with a 12µm pixel pitch, working across the 8 to 14µm waveband. A lower NETD figure means the sensor can separate smaller temperature differences, so a fox against ground that has given up its heat still shows as a distinct shape rather than a vague smudge. The 50Hz refresh keeps that image steady while you are tracking a mover rather than smearing it.

A clean sight picture in the palette that suits the country

You look through a 0.39-inch AMOLED running 1024 x 768, at native 1x magnification so the image scale through your day scope stays honest. Seven palettes are on board, including White Hot, Black Hot, Iron Red and Green Hot. Most shooters live in White Hot or Black Hot, then switch to Iron Red when they want a bit more separation between an animal and warm ground.

Built to stay out all night and get rained on

A single replaceable 18500 battery runs the unit for around 8 hours, and because it is replaceable you can carry a spare instead of a power bank. USB-C handles power when you do want to run it off a pack. The housing is IP67 rated and works from -20°C to 50°C, which covers frosty high country mornings through to a February evening out west. Overall size is 99 x 73 x 68mm.
