The Guide TD635LS Thermal Monocular with LRF pairs a 640 class detector with a laser rangefinder in a handheld that still only weighs 374g. It is built for scanning first and shooting later: find the animal, range it, then decide. The focusing roller works smoothly one-handed and the symmetrical body suits left or right handers equally.

A wide picture that finds game faster

The 640x512 detector at 12µm pitch behind a 35mm lens gives a 1800m detection range and covers roughly 22 x 17 metres of ground at 100 metres. That width is the reason a wide-lens 640 unit clears a paddock quicker than a narrow one. Fewer sweeps, less chance of walking past something bedded down in the corner of the block.

Zoom range from broad sweep to positive identification

Magnification runs 2.03x to 16.24x. Scan at the low end to take in the whole treeline, then push it up to work out whether that shape at the far fence is worth walking on. The 0.49-inch AMOLED at 1440 x 1080 holds detail through the zoom, and the -6 to +6 diopter suits spectacle wearers.

Distance settled before you move

The integrated laser rangefinder reads to 1200m, so you are working with a measured number rather than an estimate across country that always looks shorter at night. Detector sensitivity is 15mK NETD over the 8 to 14µm band at 50Hz, which is what keeps animals visible once the ground has given up its heat. Seven palettes are available, including White Hot, Black Hot and Iron Red.

Ten hours of running on a battery you can swap

One replaceable 18650 battery gives about 10 hours, with USB-C for power and data. Video recording, audio recording and a Wi-Fi hotspot are built in for reviewing footage or sending it on. The housing is IP67 rated, works from -20°C to 50°C and measures 171 x 54 x 74mm.
