Guide TE425S Thermal Monocular

The Guide TE425S Thermal Monocular gives you a longer reach than a pocket spotter usually manages, while still weighing 320g. It is built for scanning big open country from a ute tray or a ridge, picking up heat signatures at distance and letting you decide what is worth walking to. Nothing to focus, nothing to light up, just a clear read on what is warm and where it sits.

Detection to 1300 metres from a 25mm lens

The 25mm lens pairs with a 400x300 detector on a 12um pixel pitch for a 1300m detection range. The extra focal length over shorter TE models tightens the field of view to about 19 x 14m at 100 metres, which trades a little sweep width for more pixels on a distant animal. Magnification runs 1.9x to 7.6x, so you can hold a wide base view for scanning and zoom in to identify.

Holds detail when the scene goes flat

A 15mK NETD rating means the sensor resolves very small temperature differences. That matters in the small hours when the paddock, the timber and the animal have all cooled toward the same reading, which is exactly when a coarser sensor gives you a grey blur. Response across the 8 to 14um band and a 50Hz refresh keep moving targets crisp, and Guide's APEXVISION processing sharpens up edges and contrast without turning the image to mush.

Seven palettes and a clear AMOLED view

The 0.32-inch AMOLED display runs 800x600, with White Hot, Black Hot, Red Hot, Green Hot, Iron Red, Blue Hot and Sepia to choose from. Black Hot suits a scene with a lot of warm ground, Iron Red makes a body pop at range. Dioptre adjusts -5 to +5 for glasses-free use.

A night of run time in a sealed body

The built-in battery is good for 5 hours of continuous use, and a 10-minute top-up over USB-C gets you back roughly an hour of viewing. The housing measures 157x51x47mm, is rated IP67 against dust and immersion, and works from -20C to 50C. Video and audio recording plus a Wi-Fi hotspot mean you can pull footage onto a phone for pest records or property reporting.
