The Guide TN650LS 2.0 Thermal Binoculars put a 640x512 detector behind a fast 50mm lens, which is the jump most people are after when a 400-class unit stops giving them enough to make a call at distance. More detector pixels means more detail on the same animal at the same range. Add a laser rangefinder reading to 1500m and you have a single tool for finding, identifying and ranging.

More sensor, more to work with at range

The 640x512 detector on a 12um pixel pitch pairs with a 50mm F1.0 lens for a 2600m detection range. Because the sensor is larger, the base magnification sits at 3.9x with a field of view of 8.2 degrees x 4.9 degrees, about 14 x 9m at 100 metres. You get a wider scan than a 400-class binocular at the same detection distance, then zoom to 31.2x to study what you have found.

Fine thermal contrast on cold, flat nights

A 15mK NETD rating describes how small a temperature step the detector can pick out. In the hours before dawn, when everything has cooled to within a whisker of everything else, that sensitivity keeps an animal separated from the background instead of dissolving into it. The sensor covers 8um to 14um at 50Hz, and the ApexVision S1 architecture keeps motion smooth and ghost-free while you pan.

Full HD display and seven palettes

Detail from a 640 detector needs somewhere to land, and the 0.49-inch AMOLED at 1920x1080 does the job. White Hot, Black Hot, Red Hot, Green Hot, Iron Red, Blue Hot and Sepia are all selectable, and dioptre adjustment runs -6D to +6D so both eyes can be set properly.

Built to stay out all night

The built-in battery gives 7 hours, with an external 18650 cell to extend a long session. Power and charging run over USB-C at 5V DC 2A. The housing measures 210x136x71mm and weighs 720g, sealed to IP67 and rated from -20C to 50C. Dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi handles streaming and file transfer, with snapshot, video and audio recording built in.
