The HIKMICRO Lynx LQ35 3.0 Thermal Monocular puts a 640 × 512 detector and a 35 mm F1.0 lens into a body that still weighs only 354.5 g with the battery. Detection runs to 1800 m, which is genuine mid to long range spotting from something you can hold in one hand. It suits shooters who want to find and identify animals across open ground before committing to a stalk.

Reach to 1800 metres in a pocket sized unit

The 35 mm lens at F1.0 is what buys the extra distance, taking detection out to 1800 m. Field of view is 12.5° × 7.5°, or 21.9 m × 13.2 m at 100 m, which is still wide enough to scan efficiently rather than picking through the country one small patch at a time. Magnification starts at 1.9x and runs to 15.2x, with Zoom Pro and Image Pro processing keeping the image usable when you zoom in to sort out what you are actually looking at.

Detail that holds when thermal contrast drops away

A 640 × 512 detector on a 12 µm pixel pitch gives you four times the pixel count of a 384 unit, which shows up as recognisable shapes at distance instead of warm smudges. NETD is under 15 mK, meaning the sensor resolves very small temperature differences. That is what keeps a deer or a pig separated from the background in the small hours once the paddock has given up its heat. Response waveband is 8 µm to 14 µm at 50 Hz, displayed on a 0.49 inch AMOLED at 1920 × 1080. Six palettes are selectable, and HSIS shutterless imaging means no freeze while the unit recalibrates.

Sealed, cold rated and quick to swap batteries

The replaceable and rechargeable Li-ion 18650 battery gives 5 hours continuous running, and carrying spares is far simpler than nursing a fixed internal cell through a long night. It charges directly or runs from an external supply at 5 V DC, 2 A. The housing is IP67 rated, works from -30°C to 45°C in humidity up to 90%, and measures 169.6 × 53.6 × 49.5 mm. The 6 mm exit pupil and -5D to +3D diopter make it fast to get behind. Snapshot, video and audio recording are included, with a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspot for moving footage to a phone.
