The HIKMICRO Lynx LQ35L 3.0 Thermal Monocular answers both from one hand, pairing a high resolution detector with a built-in laser rangefinder so you can pick an animal off a far treeline and know the distance before you move on it. It suits hunters and pest shooters working paddocks, ridgelines and open station country where game turns up a long way out.

Heat signatures out to 1800 metres

The 640 x 512 detector with 12 µm pixel interval and a fast 35 mm f1.0 lens gives a detection range of 1800 m, so a pig or a deer on the far side of a big paddock still registers as a shape worth walking on rather than a smudge. Sensitivity is rated at less than 15 mK NETD. The lower that figure, the smaller the temperature differences the sensor can separate, which is exactly what matters late in the night once the ground has given up its heat and everything is sitting closer to the same temperature. A 50 Hz frame rate keeps the picture steady as you pan across a slope.

Range it before you commit to the stalk

The built-in laser rangefinder reads out to 1200 m, so you can confirm distance to the animal or the far ridge without carrying a second device. Audio recording, snapshot and on-board video keep a record of the night, and the 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspot streams the image to a phone.

Wide first, tight when it counts

Base magnification is 1.9x with a field of view of 12.5° x 7.5°, or 21.9 m x 13.2 m at 100 m. That is enough width to sweep a paddock quickly, and zoom runs to 15.2x when you need to confirm what is standing there. The 0.49 inch AMOLED display runs 1920 x 1080 behind a 6 mm exit pupil, with -5D to +3D dioptre adjustment and six colour palettes.

A full night out, in real weather

A replaceable 18650 lithium battery gives 5 hours continuous running, with Type-C 5V 2A charging and support for an external power supply when you are out longer. It weighs 410.7 g with the battery, carries an IP67 rating and works from -30°C to 45°C, which covers frosty high country mornings and hot nights up north.
